Snow and cold temperatures couldn’t slow us down — this past month was filled with meaningful moments, from a powerful scholar spotlight to an unforgettable Pacers Mentoring Night.
Scholar Spotlight
Martin, a scholar at Shortridge High School, recently reached out to his mentor, Ken, for guidance in refining his resume—and the impact was immediate. While impressed by Martin’s accomplishments, Ken encouraged him to highlight something just as important: who he is as a person. Wanting future employers to see the same kindness, empathy, and character he sees in Martin every day, Ken challenged him to tell his full story. Martin took the advice, updated his resume, and soon discovered that much of his interview centered on his personality and strengths—and he got the job! Now working part-time at a local shoe store, Martin’s journey is a powerful reminder of how mentorship, confidence, and authenticity can open meaningful doors.
Featured Career Trip
DREAM Alive scholars and mentors experienced an unforgettable evening at the Indiana Pacers Celebration of Mentoring Night last month. Forty-five scholars gathered at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for a powerful night of connection and inspiration, beginning with a pre-game mentoring panel featuring our Middle School Director, Destiney Lee, and followed by the excitement of a Pacers game—many scholars’ first professional basketball experience. The evening’s highlight came post-game, when scholars met Pacers player Kam Jones, asking thoughtful questions about perseverance, goals, and life in the NBA. Read the full story here.
