Our scholars had an incredible month full of adventure and growth! They hit the road for our HBCU trip to Tennessee, discovered new career paths, and celebrated the Halloween season with festive activities. As we head into November, our scholars will gear up for the DREAM Christmas season — a time when our community shines brightest as volunteers and scholars spread holiday cheer to local families.
Scholar Spotlight
During last month’s HBCU trip to Nashville, our Middle School Program Director, Destiney, took senior Omarea to visit Tennessee State University—a campus she had long dreamed of seeing. Although a formal tour wasn’t possible due to it being homecoming week, Omarea confidently explored the campus and asked students and staff about academics, housing, and campus life. She even advocated for herself to clarify details about a minor she was interested in. The visit confirmed her goals, strengthened her excitement, and left her more determined than ever to pursue college next fall.
Featured Career Trip
Our scholars had an unforgettable experience at Bottleworks Hotel in downtown Indianapolis! They explored the many paths within the hospitality industry, learning about marketing, food and beverage, culinary arts, housekeeping, maintenance, and more. After setting their own tables and preparing appetizers, they enjoyed a delicious prime rib dinner. The hands-on experience gave them a firsthand look at the creativity, teamwork, and excitement that make hospitality careers so rewarding—leaving them inspired and energized about their future possibilities.
Shopping Volunteers
Join DREAM Alive scholars for a heartwarming holiday shopping experience! You’ll be paired with a DA scholar and given a wish list and funds to purchase Christmas gifts for a child in need right here in Indianapolis. Spend time building a special connection with a scholar and experience the joy of giving all at the same time.
