Scholar Story: Stephanie
When Stephanie joined DREAM Alive in middle school, college wasn’t part of her plan. Through career field trips and consistent mentorship, she began to see new possibilities. But like many students, she faced a difficult season in high school, losing motivation and even questioning whether she would graduate.
Encouraged to apply for several scholarships — including the Walker Foundation Scholarship — Stephanie took a leap of faith. To her surprise, she received a fully funded four-year college education and the support of a dedicated college mentor.
Stephanie earned her bachelor’s degree before the age of 22 and now serves as a probation officer with Marion Superior Courts. A first-generation Latina from an immigrant household, she is now helping other young people overcome barriers, just as someone once did for her.
